In this post you will learn 'How to Root your Samsung Galaxy S2' after flashing it with the Jelly Bean 4.1.2 firmware... a post which you can find here.

In this post you will learn ‘How to Root your Samsung Galaxy S2′ after flashing it with the Jelly Bean 4.1.2 firmware… a post which you can find here.

Since you flashed the phone with the I9100XXLSJ firmware aka Jelly Bean 4.1.2, we are going to root that firmware using a secure method provided by PhilZ a Senior Member from XDA-Developers.com. This is also the simplest way to Root your Samsung Galaxy S2.

What you will need:

4.1.2 XXLSJ Rooting files (Download from here)

Make sure:

You Back-up the data on your phone

The battery has at least 50% charge

The instructions provided in this guide are meant for reference purpose only and do not cover any warranty claims involving device damage or issues arising from Rooting your Samsung Galaxy S2. Users are advised to proceed at their own risk. I will take no responsibility if you damage your phone.

Lets get started!

Download the 4.1.2 XXLSJ Rooting files from above

Copy the entire ‘Zipped’ folder that you have just downloaded onto the external memory card of your phone

Place the memory card in your phone

Switch your phone off and wait till it vibrates indicating that the phone has fully shut down

Enter ‘Stock Recovery‘ by pressing and holding the following three buttons… Volume Up + Home + Power

Select ‘Apply Update from External Storage‘

Then scroll to ‘XXLSJ-ROOT-CWM6.zip‘ and Select

Once the phone finishes Rooting, reboot it

You have successfully rooted your Samsung Galaxy S2

A big shout out to PhilZ for a fantastic solution.

I show you how to flash the latest Jelly Bean firmware to your Samsung Galaxy S2.

I am a proud owner of a Samsung Galaxy S2 aka i9100. I purchased the phone with the Gingerbread v2.3.4 Operating System pre-installed.

From day one I experienced unusual problems with my S2 i.e. fast battery drainage and overheating. At first I thought it was just the way the phone was, but after reading some articles online I realised that I wasn’t the only S2 owner experiencing problems with the phone.

Below is a list of the problems I was experiencing with my S2, the first two I experienced from the day I purchased the phone…

Battery: The battery drained really fast – I was charging the phone twice a day, clearing the RAM and correctly closing down the apps only made a small difference.

Overheating Regularly – I remember on one occasion the phone was in my pocket, it had gotten so hot that I had to quickly remove it and pull that battery out the phone. You could have fried an egg on the phone it was that hot.

Crash: The phone began to freeze and then suddenly restart and did this daily – How spooky is that!

Other: My main email accounts were connected to the default ‘Email’ app, but downloading the emails to the phone took forever if at all and some of the well developed apps worked slower on my phone than on other devices running the Ice-Cream Sandwich OS.

After some research I found out that many people who experienced similar issues like me resolved them by upgrading the firmware on their S2 to the latest version of Ice-Cream Sandwich. However I also stumbled across loads of articles online talking about the leaked Jelly Bean firmware V4.1.2 which many have tested and claim it to be a working firmware upgrade and very stable.

It has been a while since I’ve upgraded firmware on any mobile phone, so I decided to bite the bullet and upgrade the firmware on my S2 from Gingerbread V2.3.4 to Jelly Bean v4.1.2. Below is a guide I created on how to install the firmware on your S2, you may also be able to install the firmware on other Android phones but make sure you do your research first.

The instructions provided in this guide are meant for reference purpose only and do not cover any warranty claims involving device damage or issues arising from installing the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean firmware on your Samsung Galaxy S2. Users are advised to proceed at their own risk. I will take no responsibility if you brick your phone.

Things you will do:

1st Install the Jelly Bean firmware

What you will need:

Windows based machine (It’s easier)

Samsung Kies (Download from here) Kies is a piece of software created by Samsung to backup your phone data and a guide on how to use it is covered here

Android USB Driver for Windows OS (Download from here) Kies comes pre-installed with USB drivers so you can skip this step.

Odin v3.07 (Download from here)

Jelly Bean Firmware (Download from here)

Make sure:

You backup your phone data using Samsung Kies

The battery is fully charged

Lets get started!

Download & Unzip the Jelly Bean Firmware to your desktop, there will be 6 files in the folder – You will make use of three of the files!

Download, Unzip and run Odin – this will be the program you will use to flash the firmware to your Samsung Galaxy S2.

Connect your Samsung Galaxy S2 to your PC using the USB cable that came in the same box as the phone – The square panel under label ‘ID:COM’ in Odin will turn Blue.If it doesn’t turn blue… download and install Android USB drivers for your phone (link found above) then restart Odin and repeat Step 3.

Click on the PDA button, Navigate to your desktop to where you unzipped the Jelly Bean firmware and select ‘CODE_I9100XXLSJ.tar‘

Click on the PHONE button, Navigate to your desktop to where you unzipped the Jelly Bean firmware and select ‘MODEM_I9100XXLS6.tar‘

Click on the CSC button, Navigate to your desktop to where you unzipped the Jelly Bean firmware and select ‘CSC_HOME_OXX_I9100OXXLS1.tar‘

Make sure ‘Re-Partition‘ is not selected

Click on the ‘Start‘ button and wait. Your phone is being flashed. Once complete your phone will restart automatically with the Jelly Bean firmware installed.

Congratulations you have just flashed the Jelly Bean Firmware to your phone.

I accept a challenge from a friend to create a soundtrack for a Search & Recover fictional scene in a movie. How well did I perform? You're the audience!

A friend and I got into a discussion of soundtracks within movies, my favourite genre of movies is Action / Thriller.

I have always wanted to get involved when a movie is being filmed either on set whether it be helping the camera person or sound engineer maybe even behind the scenes i.e. editing or making soundtracks.

One challenge my friend threw at me was to create a soundtrack for an action movie. The scenes is where the main character has just broke into a room within a house or apartment and the objective is to search for that all important item and recover it.

Th item can be anything you want it to be, here are some examples…

A disc with sensitive files on it which determines the fate of the person holding onto it

…you get the idea!

There is no-one within the room you need to search but you, however outside this room and littered outside of the house or apartment are security guards carrying guns, take the gun away and you are faced with highly trained close combat fighters.

The main character needs to be in and out without getting caught or face a hell raising fight for survival in a furious blood shed battle.

So how will the music go?
Well after some playing around with sounds midi files and recording shakers and tambourines and the help of Garage Band and Ableton, this is what I thought the background music should sound for the above scene.

A quick 3 Step guide on how to remove the Skype watermark after software update.

Like most people online I like to make use of Skype when calling family and friends abroad.

After continuously ignoring the Skype update I decided to go ahead and upgrade the software on my Macbook Pro. After the update installed, I video called my cousin in San Francisco to wish him well for the New Year. I noticed straight away that there was a ‘Skype watermark’ at the top right hand area of the screen.

The ‘Skype watermark’ has no added benefit to the end user of the program, I found it annoying where it was and so decided to remove it – “I prefer a clear screen when I’m in a video-to-video chat session.”

I have created this quick 3-step guide which shows how you can remove the watermark on your Mac and enjoy a clear screen like me.

Step 1 – Log-in to Skype

Step 2 – Click on Skype > Preferences (or Command + ,)

Step 3 – Un-check “Show Skype watermark during calls” (see image below)

Your done!

For PC users with Microsoft OS here is a 4-step guide on what you need to do…

Step 1 – Open up Skype and log-in

Step 2 – Click on ‘Tools > Options’ (a new window opens up)

Step 3 – Click on ‘Advanced Settings’

Step 4 – Un-check box ‘Show Skype watermark during calls‘

Your done!

A Trackback is one of three types of 'Linkback' methods for website authors to request notification when somebody links to one of their documents/webpage.

Trackbacks were originally developed by SixApart, creators of the MovableType blog package. SixApart has a good introduction to trackbacks.

What is a ‘Trackback’?

“A Trackback is one of three types of ‘Linkback‘ methods for website authors to request notification when somebody links to one of their documents/webpage.”

The three Linkbacks are called…

Trackback

Pingback

Refback

Now you know the names of the three Linkbacks!

Staying on topic of ‘Trackbacks’, I will break down how it works…

You own a website

You create a new post/page

I read your post/page you created after finding it through my search terms on a search engine i.e. Google

I like your post/page and decide to write my own article on my own website based around your post/page

When I publish my article I send a Trackback to you to notify you of my article

If your CMS allows ‘Trackback’ monitoring these will drop into your ‘Comments’ inbox with a link to my article

You can then click on the link and read my article on my website

Pretty neat huh!

When used properly, ‘Linkbacks’ are an excellent way to build traffic to your blog/website and a great way of creating a network of new friends or professional relationships.

Give it a try and see if you can pull in extra traffic to your website.

With hundreds of companies out there selling all types of hosting plans and at different prices…

Which one do you choose?

Which one is best suited to the website you need?

Which one will you part your hard earned cash with?

Below you will find three Web Hosting companies, the first two I use regularly and after a lot of research I decided to add HostGator to my list after reading some really good reviews.

Free Virtual Servers are my 1st and preferred UK based Web Hosting company, their customer support is brilliant, I tend to tweet to them when I have a question and they happy to twitter back an answer. A few of my big client websites are hosted with them.

DreamHost is my favourite Web Hosting company my second website and all my demonstration websites are hosted with them. Their customer service is excellent and I have not experienced any server down-time.
